BACHELOR/MASTER EDUCATION IN FOREST SCIENCES - READY FOR THE NEXT DECADE?
(June 17th till June 19th 2010)
Major topics of the SILVA Network annual conference Zagreb 2010
(1) The participants agreed in a more intensive engagement of the SILVA Network in the improvement of the learning and teaching process.
(2) The students' contributions to the 2010 SILVA Network conference underlined deficiencies between Bologna statements and reality, for instance concerning mobility and acknowledgement of ECTS credits from externally taken courses.
(3) The chances for employment of graduates could be improved in some countries by an extension of the BSc. curricula from 3 to 4 years.
In case of the MSc. degree, examples aside the classical Bologna recommendations are:
- 5 years undivided (e.g. University of West Hungary, Sopron)
- 4 + 2 years divided (e.g. Technical University of Madrid)
(4) Attempts to link MSc. and doctoral candidate courses more closely appear as an efficient tool to consolidate study periods and to improve the efficiency of higher educational processes.
(5) Impacts of new member institutions are greatly appreciated because the efficiency of the SILVA Network results from habouring a large variety of higher education member institutions all over Europe and adjacent areas. On June 18th, 2010, the General Assembly acknowledged three applying institutions as full members (listed in alphabetical order of their home town):
